This page will probably include totally random rants and raves about whatever I have recently found interesting or inflammatory or somesuch things.
I have always enjoyed this little clip immensely. Oppenheimer's voice comes though as almost
totally devoid of all emotion, which I think is nicely juxtaposed against the actual subject
matter he is describing. I also think it is particularly interesting because what he is
describing is the creation of the modern world in many ways, a world which he and a handful
of other scientists made possible. Combine the creation of a weapon capable of destruction
on a scale never before scene in history with the willingness of the USA to actually
use such a weapon and you have the foundings of the Cold War and a half-century of paranoia
and tension. The way he describes this event is really poetic, and I think it captures the
magnitude of it all in a way that couldn't get much better.
